OFF THE GRID
June 3rd, 2011
FIGHTS, SUNSHINE AND FOOD TRUCKS
It's June 1st and it's raining, so as usual we bucked convention, refused to
stay in our swanky studio hovel and braved the weather for some grub at Off The Grid. If you haven't already heard, OTG is a collection of food trucks that grace the streets of SF in various locations on different days. The host of trucks vary, so there is always that slight mystery surrounding what you'll eat for lunch.
We saw a decent sized fight on the seedy sidewalks of SOMA that helped quicken our pace to our trendy-but-rad destination: Food Truck Heaven. Today we scarfed Brisket Sandwiches from Ebbetts, Red Sesame Chicken, Pork Belly, and Pulled Pork Steamed Buns from Chairman Bao, and Falafel Sandwiches with Sweet Potato Fries from Liba Falafel. One great tip about hitting the Minna and 5th OTG is the considerably smaller crowd than the Fort Mason location. The food is quick and there have always been chairs available. Seating is generally my biggest gripe about food trucks, and OTG straight-up stifles that. The rain held off while we ate, reminding us that sometimes when you follow your gut, the sun shines on your shoulder. There is now a confirmed schedule of Off the Grid at Minna and 5th every Wednesday.
