Rothko in The Hood
These are some photos of painted over graffiti around the neighborhood. I like the irony in that the artwork being covered up becomes a stripped down abstracted version of art itself. Rothko once said way better than I, "We favor the simple expression of the complex thought. We are for the large shape because it has the impact of the unequivocal. We wish to reassert the picture plane. We are for flat forms because they destroy illusion and reveal truth."
