For the second time in as many months the New York Times has featured an Astro designed product in its pages. In its Personal Tech section the NYT reviews Bic's new Coosh earbuds in a piece entitled Don’t Worry, Be Athletic: These Headphones Fit Comfortably.

Challenged by household name Bic to design their first foray into personal electronics, Astro was asked to create an affordable, stylish and (finally) comfortable pair of earbuds that wouldn’t fall off. The Coosh motto, “Stays on. Feels good.” certainly sounds simple enough, but trust us; it’s harder than it sounds.

So the next time you’re skydiving and you absolutely, positively need to crank Spanish Castle Magic as you leap from the plane, make sure you’ve got Coosh earbuds in your ears—they won’t fall out while your freefalling.

Not content to land their dream job at ASTRO right out of school, Astro designers John Muhlenkamp and Spencer Nugent recently got the attention of Mac|Life Magazine. In January 2009, the pair and their site IDsketching.com were profiled as a part of Mac|Life’s Made On A Mac - Artists that Depend on the Power of the Mac.

Originally launched when they were still students, IDsketching.com took off after being profiled on Core77 and quickly took on a life of its own. At times generating over 10,000 visitors per day, IDsketching.com is an interactive clearinghouse of design resources that includes tips and how-to videos for everyone from young designers to established designer professionals looking to stay abreast of the latest advances in digital design tools or simply join in the conversation.

With the recent addition of forums and a video archive with interviews and tutorials from John, Spencer, outside experts and industry professionals, the site continues to grow and act as a launching pad for their work in the greater I.D. community. A recent presentation at San Francisco’s California College of the Arts and upcoming appearances at San Jose State and IDSA West prove that their site has a larger audience attracting attention from academics and design professionals.

According to Nugent, the two initially started the site to specifically engage “industrial design professionals and students but in a broader sense, illustrators, graphic designers—anyone with a passion and love for drawing. That’s really what it’s all about, us sharing our love for sketching, drawing and creating.”
